Wine Review

The Chocolate Block, 2016, South Africa

This 2015 vintage with a blend of 69% Syrah, 14% Grenache, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cinsault boasts a cherry red colour. With an exuberant nose opening on floral, fruity and subtle spicy notes, this dry red enjoys an ample mouth, pleasant freshness and soft tannins. True to the scent perceived, it is reminiscent of flavours of tobacco, mocha, violet and oak, with a rather persistent finish. Pair deliciously with pheasant terrine, beef biltong, dark chocolate desert.

Mount Edelstone Shiraz 2014, Australia

The wine is of a ruby colour with purplish reflections. On the nose, beautiful notes of blackberries and plums mix with notes of star anise, fern, eucalyptus and dark chocolate. The mouth is melting, supported by an intense and concentrated blend of sugar, juicy plums and ripe tannins. A superb mouth-feel, long texture and a lingering finish. Great pairing with charcuteries, rib of Aberdeen Angus, chocolate gateau.

Ice Wine Cabernet Franc, 2006, Canada

An amazing and rare Ice Wine, with a light ruby colour, announces a nose marked by red fruit and notes of citrus and rhubarb. The mouth bursts with red fruits, and the richness and sweetness of the nectar are lightened by a splendid acidity, which gives a lot of intensity and brightness to the flavours. Delightful with poached foie gras in red wine, veal with morels, blue cheese.

Clos Apalta 2015, Chile

The 2015 vintage sports a deep purplish red colour. The complex nose opens with expressive red and black fruits, such as plums, red cherries, dried figs and blueberries. The palate mirrors the aromas found on the nose and is concentrated with a round attack followed by velvety and polished tannins filling the mid-palate with a long and rich finish. Pair beautifully with braised duck with ceps, farmed brie.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, USA

A Cabernet Sauvignon displaying a ruby colour of good intensity, with a powerful nose that opens on subtle mineral and spicy notes. It evokes scents of liquorice, tobacco, blackcurrant, eucalyptus, green pepper and leather. This red has good acidity and tight tannins. On the palate, it evokes flavours of cassis, mint, smoke, tobacco and leather. It offers a generous mouth that culminates in a long finish. Delicious with roast lamb, duck with raspberries, aged cheeses.
