Millie Bobby Brown, 14, earned her worldwide fame for her role as Eleven in the Netflix science fiction horror series Stranger Things - a clever, supernatural phenomenon which pays homage to 1980’s pop culture. Dissimilar to her persona in the series Brown, who was born in Marbella, Spain, and grew up in Dorset, ¬England, is a bubbly and charming character who has a gift for socialising. She has not been through acting school or taken classes but simply just decided one day that she wanted to be on the big screen. Her parents obliged, moving her and her siblings from Bournemouth in England to Orlando to allow her to pursue her dream. Brown started auditioning for commercials, movies, and musicals like Matilda and Annie at the age of 8. Her first job was a commercial for Publix, the supermarket chain. “When I got that first job, I knew right away that I was born to do this.” She has already become an icon for her generation and has an endearing attitude which calls out, “the future is simply mine for the taking”.

Since then, she has done nothing but wow the world with her hilarious humour and wit. Brown who is a curious, hyper-alert, and alluringly wide-eyed girl, constantly draws on her advice from celebrities from the industry, such as Drake and Emma Watson, to appeal to the wider circuit. When she won favourite TV actress at the Kids’ Choice Awards in March, she wore a denim shirt with the names of the victims of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting embroidered on the back. “I take my responsibilities seriously, and recognize that I have a voice, and I want to use it wisely”. It is no wonder she is featured as the youngest person ever to feature on TIME 100 list of the 100 most influential people and youngest person to be appointed as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

As well as acting, Millie loves to sing and has a real flare for it too. Although she was born with partial hearing in one ear, gradually losing all hearing in that ear over several years - this doesn’t stop her from channelling her inner Nicki Minaj. Brown can’t fully hear herself perform, but no matter. “I just start to sing, and if I sound bad I don’t care, because I’m just doing what I love,” she says. “You don’t have to be good at singing. You don’t have to be good at dancing or acting. If you like to do it, if you genuinely enjoy doing it, then do it. No one should stop you.”

The pressing question, which we are all dying to get an answer to, is whether Millie Bobby Brown will return for the third series of Stranger Things. The answer is, thankfully, yes. Although coming a little later than we originally would have liked, Stranger Things will return in the summer of 2019 and apparently the delay will be “worth the wait”. Creators, the Duffer Brothers, and Shawn Levy know that, “the stakes are high, and we want to deliver something bigger and better than last year”. To say that we are excited is an understatement! We will definitely be tuning into another incredible performance by the lovely Millie Bobby Brown.
