The Álvarez family, who are also the owners of Vega Sicilia, created Alión with the ambition to produce a modern Tempranillo, both seductive and elegant. Long ageing explains the refinement and completeness of a nose marked by black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), kirsch, sweet spices and noble notes of oak. Concentrated and opulent, with silky tannins and great length, Alión is well-balanced and delightful with fine charcuteries, rib of beef a la plancha or Moroccan lamb tajine.
Château La Gurgue 2010 offers immediate charm with its ruby colour and purple hues. Black cherry, spices and liquorice mingle on the nose, with the mouth following this aromatic continuity. It is both supple and generous with a wonderful silky palate, plush tannins and a spicy roundness. Pair deliciously with lamprey, pan-fried ceps, chicken ala cacciatore.
De Trafford signs this very typical "New World" Shiraz with intense aromas of blackberries, pepper, vanilla and leather. Meaty and juicy, the mouth offers all the liveliness of ripe fruit, supported by suave tannins. It is a truly seductive Shiraz which will pair deliciously with gastronomic aperitifs, pan-fried veal with wild mushrooms, cheese (Tomme de Savoie, Gouda, Emmenthal).
Penfold’s 389 has a deep magenta purple colour. Made from a blend of Cabernet sauvignon and Shiraz, it exudes notes of crushed blueberries, cassis, vanilla pod, dried Provence herbs, lavender and cigars. Medium to full-bodied, the palate gives way to exuberant black and blue fruit, supported by grainy tannins. Will pair beautifully with beef Teriyaki, duck with ceps, cheese (Cheddar, Emmental, Gouda).
Le Volte is an assemblage of the main Bordeaux varieties with Sangiovese (30%). The 2012 delivers a beautiful expression of this vintage. A warm year but not excessively so, allowing excellent ripening of the grapes. The colour is intense, the nose is very fruity, and slightly spicy. On the palate, it displays fine, elegant, silky tannins, supported by a vibrating and refreshing acidity. This wine is already full of palatability but is also suitable for laying down in the cellar. Fantastic with antipasti, red Mullet fillet and ratatouille, grilled lamb cutlets.
