Wine Review

Brunello di Montalcino 2008, Italy

This Brunello di Montalcino releases a bouquet of great complexity between fruit (blackberries, blueberries, plums, cherries) and subtle oak. Full, fleshy and voluptuous on the palate, this great wine delivers fresh ripe flowers and liquorice flavours, with silky and elegant tannins. Ready to drink now, but carries promise for later years.

Bodegas Vega Sicilia

Alión 2011, Spain

The Alión is one of the greatest wines of Ribera Del Duero. It is produced by the legendary Vega Sicília. In tasting the Alión 2011 reveals a dense garnet colour with ruby highlights, the nose of deep complexity, mixing chocolate and hazelnut aromas. The mouth, a full, velvety texture, with complex fluctuating fruits, evoking kirsch and blackberry to a perfect ripeness. The 2011 vintage is attractive, radiant, with hint of mocha. One of the greatest vintages of Alión!

Quinta de Soalheiro

Alvarinho 2013, Vinho Verde, Portugal

Nestled between the Penada Mountains and the Minho River, Joao and his son Luas Cerdeira nurture 14 hectares of prime Alvarinho vineyards. The dark granite soils and the North facing aspects allow warm sunshine to slowly ripen the grapes giving both attractive clean aromatics with classic freshness and minerality. Quinta de Soalheiro’s Alvarinho offers good texture and weight on the palate. A complex array of firm flavours, fine acidity and fruity lingering hints of white flowers and peaches in the finale. This Alvarinho is stunningly complex and balanced.

Knightsbridge 2010, England

Ridgeview Estate is dedicated solely to the production of the highest quality sparkling wine from traditional Champagne varieties and methods. The Knightsbridge is a Blanc de Noirs made from 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Pinot Meunier. In tasting, the nose is elegant and restrained with hints of red fruit and floral notes. The generous palate shows off the ripe pinot fruit, with lots of concentration and well balanced acidity. It will pair brilliantly with smoked salmon, or light fish dishes.
