Wine Review

Altos Las Hormigas

Malbec 2013, Argentina

This Malbec of Altos Las Hormigas sets the tone of the best Malbecs in Argentina ; a deep colour, a very expressive nose adding notes of red or black well- ripened fruits to a spicy, chocolate with hints of aromatic plants in the background. The mouth is well balanced between fruity juicy and firm tannins. A beautiful presence and good length are two of the many qualities of this Malbec from Altos las Hormigas, one of the most prestigious sites of the country.

Domain Shizen

Cuvée Denis Dubourdieu 2011, Japan

Winemaker, professor of oenology and renowned consultant, Denis Dubourdieu nourishes a passion for Japan. At the foot of Mount Fuji, in the Yamanashi, heart of the Japanese winegrowing, he was seduced by the vine variety Koshu, a variety of vitis vinifera implanted here for centuries. He draws this Shizen vintage to clear precision as light in alcohol as refined in aromas (flower, white fruit, citrus fruit). Very pure and vinified to enhance its delicacy and lightness, it is a very beautiful discovery.

Joseph Phelps

Backus 1997, USA

Joseph Phelps is one of the leading figures of California. In 1973, he acquired a ranch in Spring Valley and planted his first vines with the ambition to produce world class wines, to the Bordeaux model. The overall quality of Joseph Phelps wines was born of a very focused work in the vineyard (biodynamics, maturity, expression of the terroirs) and a vinification that is gentle, demanding and always respectful of the grape and vintage.

Twins 2009, Australia

The Twins Maverick vintage is a blend inspired by the great wines of the southern Rhone Valley. Ripe fruit notes combine with a complex background of spice and herbs. The sweetness of the fruit and generous texture provide a great feeling of smoothness. Tannins pierce behind holding and giving relief to this beautiful bottle. Keep this to serve with meat in a rich sauce.

Lindaflor Chardonnay 2011, Argentina

Lindaflor Chardonnay originated on the altitude of the Valle de Uco in Mendoza. The nose evokes ripe fruit, with exotic hints and a beautiful variation of vanilla and toasted notes. Ample and powerful, the mouth combines a stunning maturity of the fruit with a firm and fresh structure and an harmonious woody undertone. This Lindaflor Chardonnay confirms the potential of Chardonnay on the soils of altitude of Mendoza.

Rothschild - Vina Concha Y Toro

Almaviva 2010, Argentina

Almaviva is the result of an alliance between Concha y Toro, one of the oldest Chilean wineries of great historical prestige and Château Mouton Rothschild. It is elaborated from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Carmenere varieties, present on the 50 hectares of vineyard that Concha y Toro owns in Punto Alto. An exceptional terroir for a wine of great character, disposed to compete with the greatest reds in the world.

Larose 2007, New Zealand

Power, complexity and richness, are the three words that best describe this Stonyridge Larose 2007 vintage. In a Bordeaux style, this red wine blends subtly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. A great success!
